Eggplant Season

Hey,

It’s eggplant season. Here it is a nice, homemade recipe:

Eggplant from Wikipedia

Image from Wikipedia

Ingredients:

2-3 x eggplant

2 x chicken egg

2 x teaspoon mustard

100-150 ml vegetable oil

salt

Preparation:

The eggs, mustard and vegetable oil is to create a sweet mayonnaise. My advice is to don’t buy it from your local store if you can to it in home. OK, if you know how to create mayonnaise then skip this part or read through:

Step 1: Separate the two eggs yolk from the rest of the eggs and put it in a bowl.

Step 2: Put 2 x teaspoon mustard to the egg yolks.

Step 3: Put little salt

Step 4: Start mixing the stuff and gradually pour the vegetable oil in it. Be careful not to pour all the oil at once, because the mayonnaise will break down…

Mix until all the oil is whisked in.

For a more detailed process of making mayonnaise you can visit the Wikipedia Cookbook

Eggplant.

Bake the eggplants until they’re softens, then skin it and chop it. Mix the eggplant with the mayonnaise and mix a little salt in it too. And there you go. It’s best to put on bread.

It’s Juicing Time

It’s very warm outside, it’s time to get some healthy fluids in our body. In summer season you can get some very tasty and fresh fruits in your local store, I’m sure of it. Apples, oranges, lemons are a few common fruits that I like to juice with my brand new juicer bought from Amazon. You can find very good things on that site. Anyway, here it is some fruit cocktail recipes that you can juice and mix together.

Fruit Cocktail:

Mix together:

1 x orange

1 x grapefruit

1 x mango

1 x pineapple

1/4 x lime

1/2 x kiwi

This is really good. And as a bonus I will post 2 more fruit cocktails from a book called Juice Fasting and Detoxification

also bought together with my juicer. Yes. Amazon thanks again for the wonderful things. Okay, the next cocktail recipe is called Apello: just mix together 2 orange, 1 grapefruit and 1/2 apple.

And the other recipe from the same book is called Kiba: mix together 100 gr. cherry and 100 gr. banana. It’s simple and yet very delicious.

Okay, hope you like it and I’ll post some other healthy food recipes soon.

Healthy Foods You’re Not Eating

August 21, 2007 - One Response

There are many healthy food recipes that contains exotic ingredients that makes people confused. These ingredients are not available on many zones of the Earth, but many so called ‘regular’ fruit and vegetables are likely to be available at your local store, but people don’t seem to be eating it very often. Like:

Cabbage

Absent from most household kitchens. Why is that? I don’t know. I do know that this delicious vegetable is full of valuable nutrients and low calories. By eating this food one can reduce the risk of cancer.

Cinnamon

It’s a very healthy spice. It helps control your blood sugar which reduces the risk of heart diseases. It works by increasing your body’s ability to metabolize sugar by 20 times. Surprisingly it can be poured on coffee, or you can use it with meat based foods.

Apple juice

It decreases blood pressure and provides 50% of your daily C vitamin. If you decide to buy ready made apple juice, don’t forget to be 100% natural and with no added sugar.

Pumpkin seeds

These seeds are to most nutritious part of the whole pumpkin. It contains a lot of magnesium. Researches discovered that people with the highest level of magnesium have a 40% lower risk of early death than thos with the lowest magnesium level.

Also walnut contains a lot of magnesium.

How Important is Breakfast

August 21, 2007 - Leave a Response

Many people skip breakfast, but they don’t realize how important it is. Breakfast gives you the jump-start for the day, therefore it is important to eat healthy, vitamin rich food at breakfast. If you’re a coffee addict, don’t drink it at breakfast. Coffee dehydrates the body and is more likely leaves you feeling more tired by early afternoon.

Another positive side to eat breakfast is that eating in the morning gives you a bit of more energy and this energy then translates to movement and movement gives your metabolism a boost which is good, because it keeps you fit.

Breakfast can be really good, if you eat energy rich healthy foods. Make sure that you eating grains, proteins, fruits and milk.

Healthy Food And Vegetarianism

August 20, 2007 - Leave a Response

Okay, I’d like to talk about healthy food and vegetarianism. Many people relate healthy foods to vegetarianism, but that’s not entirely true. First of all according to Wikipedia vegetarianism means: “a dietary practice characterised by the consumption of only vegetables, fruit, nuts, grains and pulses, and excluding the consumption of all body parts of any animal and products derived from animal carcasses (such as lard, tallow, gelatin, cochineal).”

But healthy foods doesn’t necessarily exclude animal products such as meat. Of course we have to treat meat as any other source of nutrition and we must take in consideration how much we eat from one particular food.

Let me tell you this, the human body’s most vital organ is the brain. The brain controls our body. Almost 70% of the human body’s energy is used by the brain. This interesting organ runs on proteins, like cars runs on gasoline. And guess what, meat contains lot’s and lot’s of proteins, in fact that’s the best source of nutrition regarding proteins.

The fact is we have to avoid excessive fat, salt and sugar in order to maintain a healthy life, but I cannot emphasize more to take in consideration the positive properties of meat and animal based foods in general.

Eggs Over Spinach and Mushroom

August 18, 2007 - 2 Responses

This is a very good healthy food recipe for breakfast. I actually skipped out the mushrooms, but the official recipe is with it. Here it is:

Ingredients:

  • 4 large free-range chicken eggs
  • 1 tsp light vinegar, (rice, white wine, or apple cider)
  • 1 TBS chicken or vegetable broth
  • ½ medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cups sliced crimini mushrooms
  • 1 medium tomato, seeds and excess pulp removed, chopped
  • 3 medium cloves garlic, chopped
  • 10oz package frozen spinach, thawed and excess water removed
  • salt and black pepper to taste
  1. Bring water to a high simmer in a 10-inch skillet with 1 tsp of vinegar.
  2. In a separate skillet heat 1 TBS broth. Healthy Sauté onion and mushrooms in broth for 5 minutes over medium heat stirring frequently.
  3. Add tomato, garlic, spinach, salt and pepper and sauté for another 2-3 minutes.
  4. When water comes to a high simmer poach eggs for about 5 minutes, or until whites are firm. Remove from water with a slotted spoon and place over spinach mixture.

Make sure you do not add any salt to the poaching water for the eggs. The salt has a tendency to dissolve the egg whites.

Hey, I have a delicious high protein recipe from a book called What’s Cooking: Healthy Recipes

It’s called Breakfast Egg and Bean Burritos

Ingredients:

1 can (16 ounces) maple-cured, bacon-baked beans or other smoky-baked beans
6 large eggs
Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
6 strips cooked bacon, crumbled
1/3 cup chopped green onion
6 (7- to 8-inch) flour tortillas, warmed
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
Canned salsa or ketchup, optional

The preparation is very easy :

Heat the beans in a small saucepan

Beat the eggs with the salt and pepper. (Remember do not use excessive salt) Melt the butter in a 10-inch, non-stick skillet over medium heat.

Add the eggs, and sprinkle with the bacon and green onions. Scramble the eggs until softly cooked.
Divide the egg mixture into 6 parts, and spoon one part into each tortilla. Top each with 1/4 cup beans and 1 1/2 tablespoons cheese. Fold in the ends, and roll up the burritos. Serve with salsa, if desired.

Also you can find many good healthy recipes in this book. And there is another book on my wish list called Recipes for Inner Peace

The title is tempting and the review of the book is great. I highly recommend to everyone.
